Mary Jane Blige née le 11 janvier 1971, est une chanteuse, auteur-compositeur et productrice de musique R'n'B très influencée par la soul, le rap et le gospel .
D'un père musicien de jazz qui quitte le foyer familial alors que n'était âgée que de 4 ans, la jeune chanteuse ainsi que sa soeur aînée ont été élevées par leur mère. Mary J. a trouvé refuge dans la musique, elle a chanté dans la chorale de l'église et gagne à 7 ans un concours de chant.
Marquée par une adolescence difficile, elle n'a pas pu résister aux tentations des drogues douces et a été renvoyée très tôt du lycée.
C'est Puff Dady encore pas célèbre qui était stagiaire dans une maison de disques, qui lui fait passer une audition et l' aide à faire le premier pas vers le monde des disques.
Mary J. sort alors en juillet 1992 un premier album à grand succès ''What's The 411'', notamment grâce au titre '' Real Love'', ''My Life''son deuxième album sort en 1994.
En 1997 Mary J. enchaîne et sort l'opus ''Share my world '' qui comporte entre autres'' Love Is All We Need'', un duo avec Nas est ''The tour''.
L'année suivante, elle enregistre l'album ''Mary'' où elle chante avec son idole Aretha Franklin sur '' Don't Waste Your Time'', mais joue aussi Elton John, Eric Clapton et George Michael.
Ses disques suivant sont '' No More Drama'' qui sort en 2001, '' Love & Life'' en 2003 avec Dr Dre 50 Cent ou encore Jay Z et ''The Breakthrough ''en 2005.
Mary J. commença en 2005 le tournage d'un film sur la chanteuse de jazz Nina Simone.
n 2006 elle livre le best of ''Reflections : The Journey'', puis ''Growing Pains'', en 2007
Côté vie privée, Mary J. s'est marié le 7 décembre 2003 avec Martin Kendu Isaacs connu sous Kendu dans l'industrie musicale qui réussit à lui faire abandonner totalement l'alcool.
